Summary

Peripheral spindle cell carcinoid tumors of the lung are very rare, probably showing an increased tendency to metastasize. As the usual histologic criteria of malignancy cannot be applied to carcinoids, these tumors should be resected like carcinomas.

Our patient was asymptomatic, neither metastases nor a carcinoid syndrome could be found; the tumor was resected by lobectomy.
