A new reaction for the formation of the pyrrole ring was discovered; it consists in the condensation of the dipotassium salt of 2,3,3-trinitropropionaldehyde with formaldehyde and amines. 1-Methyl- and 1-ethyl-3,4-dinitropyrroles were prepared.
