Bei vielen Patienten mit Vorhofflimmern oder Vorhofflattern lässt sich eine kardiale oder extrakardiale Grunderkrankung nachweisen. Die Berücksichtigung der Grunderkrankung hat für die Therapie von Vorhofflimmern und Vorhofflattern besondere Bedeutung. In dieser Übersicht sollen neue Erkenntnisse zu Vorhofflimmern/Vorhofflattern bei folgenden speziellen Krankheitsbildern und Patientengruppen dargestellt werden:

  1. bei fortgeschrittener linksventrikulärer Dysfunktion,

  2. in der Frühphase nach Herzoperation,

  3. bei Patienten mit koronarer Herzerkrankung,

  4. bei Patienten mit valvulärer Herzerkrankung,

  5. bei Patienten mit hypertensiver und hypertropher Kardiomyopathie,

  6. bei Hyperthyreose,

  7. bei Vorliegen akzessorischer Leitungsbahnen,

  8. bei Vorliegen anhaltender ektoper atrialer Tachykardien,

  9. in höherem Lebensalter,

  10. bei Leistungssport.
