Abstract

Too much load or a sudden increase in load can put any athlete at risk for an overuse injury. Young athletes are no different in this regard but may be at particular risk for injuries that are unique to their age. We know that athletes are specializing at younger and younger ages. There is some evidence that early specialization can lead to overuse injury in young athletes. We will explore the evidence regarding overload and injury specific to young basketball athletes.
