Abstract
The Plasmodiophoromycota, here being considered a phylum, comprise a monophyletic group that have been considered either as members of the Fungi (Sparrow 1960; Waterhouse 1972), Protozoa (Barr 1992; Cavalier-Smith 1993a,b, Chap. 1, this Vol.) or Protoctista (Corliss 1986; Margulis et al. 1989).
