Current Topics in Contact Dermatitis

Abstract

Different adverse skin reactions secondary to the use of topical solutions of minoxidil have been documented, namely, irritative contact dermatitis [1], allergic contact dermatitis to minoxidil or to propylene glycol used as a vehicle [2, 3], parapheny-lenediamine (PPDA)-crossed allergic contact dermatitis [4], and photoallergic dermatitis [5]. With regard to the incidence of contact dermatitis to minoxidil, Van der Willingen et al. [3] reported three cases among 95 patients, Tosti et al. [5] found three cases in a series of 465 patients, and Roenigk et al. [1] described one case in a group of 777 patients who had been topically treated with minoxidil.
