Zusammenfassung
Während die Länder Europas und Nordamerikas zu den Ländern mit einer niedrigen Mortalität zwischen 1 – 2/100 000 EW zählen [11], gehört das hepatozelluläre Karzinom (HCC) weltweit mit geschätzten 250000 Toten pro Jahr [135] zu den häufigsten letalen, bösartigen Neubildungen, mit der höchsten Inzidenz in Afrika, besonders in Mozambique, sowie in Ländern Ostasiens. Diese geographische Verteilung sowie die Identifizierung verschiedener Risikofaktoren bei Populationen mit hoher Sterblichkeit an HCC belegen die Bedeutung ätiologisch wichtiger Umweltfaktoren, die im folgenden diskutiert werden sollen. Dazu zählen chronische und konnatal erworbene Hepatitis-B-Infektionen, chronischer Konsum chemischer Kanzerogene in Nahrungsmitteln sowie Alkoholabusus (Abb. 1).
