Die koronare Herzkrankheit der Frau

Zusammenfassung

Kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungen sind die häufigste Todesursache der Frauen in den Vereinigten Staaten. Es sterben mehr Frauen an Gefäßerkrankungen als an Krebs, Unfällen und Diabetes mellitus zusammengenommen [7]. Entgegen der weitverbreiteten Meinung haben nicht Männer mittleren Alters das höchste Erkrankungsrisiko, sondern postmenopausale Frauen [27]. In jedem einzelnen Jahr seit 1984 haben kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungen mehr Leben von Frauen als von Männern gefordert [11]. Während die Gesamttodeszahlen durch kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungen abnehmen, steigt die Zahl der Frauen, welche an kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen sterben, jährlich an. Gefäßerkrankungen verursachen hohe Kosten und ein hohes Maß an Behinderung und Minderung der Lebensqualität [7].
