Abstract
Magma is an impressive word. Little wonder then, that a pop band, now forgotten, once called itself Magma. But the mysterious and fearsome associations evoked by the word magma have far deeper roots. Magma loses its mythical aura once it appears at the surface of the Earth; it is consequently given a different name: erupted magma is called lava.
