Abstract
Large parts of the Netherlands are below sea level. The deepest parts are more than 4 m below sea level. These are the relatively new polders, built in the last century. Prevention of floods is and remains the main pilar of the Dutch Flood Risk policy. In the last decades, however, more attention is paid to disaster management.
