A type of cartilage that is located at three main sites in a growing child: the growth plates near the ends of the long bones, the cartilage lining the joint surfaces, and the point at which the major tendons attach to bone. Growth cartilage is present until the child stops growing and is more easily damaged from repetitive microtrauma.
