Summary
The provision of quality education in pharmacology faces two major hurdles burgeoning information and dwindling resources. Teachers can no longer act as mere purveyors of information but need to shift the locus of control to students. Student-centered learning can be encouraged by use of problem-based or problem-solving exercises as well as interactive computer systems. These approaches require resources that may burden many countries, particularly in the Third World. IUPHAR should play a significant role in ensuring that the next generation of pharmacologists is educated appropriately.
