The Degrowth Transition in Latin America: Deurbanised, Autonomous City-States in 2122—An Invitation

The Palgrave Handbook of Global Politics in the 22nd Century

Abstract

This chapter narrates a possible transition in Latin America from the present towards deurbanised, autonomous city-states in 2122. It grounds such transition in the theory and insights from both the degrowth and deurbanisation movements. Based on these theoretical fundamentals, it describes the case of the Caracol Network in Chiapas in 2122 and how it is designed according to degrowth and deurbanisation principles.
