Abstract

The USA CAPD Registry began operations on a pilot basis in January 1981. Thus far we have collected data on over 23,000 patients from 486 participating centers. The majority of these patients (94%) were receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) when registered; 5% were receiving continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD) when registered; and several patients were on combination therapy with both CCPD and CAPD. Follow-up data were available for 16,413 of these patients as of August 31, 1986 (the cut-off date for data to be included in the 1987 annual report). Highlights from that report form the basis of this presentation. The interested reader is encouraged to read the complete report, which includes analyses of routine follow-up of registered patients and results of retrospective special studies which were conducted on randomly selected patients from the Registry population.*
