Abnormal Organogenesis of Facial Structures

  • Chapter
Handbook of Teratology

Abstract

Much of the early research concerning embryonic facial development has been conducted on amphibian embryos. More recently the emphasis has turned to avian and mammalian embryos, and the development and utilization of the new techniques required have led to considerable advances towards the understanding of developmental mechanisms. The description of facial embryogenesis which is now emerging reflects a sequence of events that is similar in the various types of vertebrate embryos studied.
