Abstract
A generator for single sentences can be useful in some applications, but in general, sentence generation will be just a sub-task of a larger system for producing paragraph-size text. In this chapter, we show some possibilities for extending the MOOSE sentence generation framework “upward” to the production of paragraphs. Section 10.1 discusses some general issues of text planning and representation, and Section 10.2 sketches some of the steps necessary for embedding MOOSE into a text generator. A sample application for such a system is characterized in Section 10.3: the production of multilingual technical documentation.
