Stress Echocardiography

Part of the book series: Developments in Cardiovascular Medicine ((DICM,volume 247))

Abstract

The previous sections have dealt with issues relating to the performance of stress echocardiography for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. However, the chronic nature of cardiac disease often mandates the careful follow-up of patients with coronary and non-coronary heart disease, to identify the progression of disease or the development of complications. Stress echocardiography offers a detailed analysis of cardiac function at rest and stress, and is well suited to monitoring the progress of patients in these respects. This chapter will review data pertaining to the efficacy of stress echocardiography for the follow-up of patients with coronary, valvular and myocardial diseases.
