The Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes

  • Chapter
Handbook of Genetics

Abstract

The genetics of the red fox are of interest because of the economic importance of this species. In this respect, the species has much in common with the American mink. The fox is bred on a large scale on ranches for the production of luxuriant pelts. A number of mutants have been seized upon by breeders for the development of novel and high-priced colors.
