Function type

Definition

FunctionType” is a concept of identification (generated from the IDENTIFICATION axiom) of IMGT-ONTOLOGY, the global reference in immunogenetics and immunoinformatics (Giudicelli and Lefranc 1999; Lefranc et al. 2004, 2005, 2008; Duroux et al. 2008), built by IMGT®, the international ImMunoGeneTics information system® (http://www.imgt.org) (IMGT® Information System), that allows to identify the type of function. In molecular biology, “FunctionType” allows to identify the type of function of a Molecule_EntityType leafconcept.

Thus, for example, the “FunctionType” concept allows to identify:

  1. 1.

For the immunoglobulins (IG) or antibodies and the T cell receptors, that are the antigen receptors of the adaptive immune response, the function of “antigen binding” and “antigen recognition” by the variable (V) domains (Variable (V) Domain) of the specific antigen receptors, these types of functions being strongly related with the “SpecificityType” concept that...
