Definition

Plasmonic nanoparticles (typically gold and silver nanoparticles) are known for their unique surface plasmon resonance (SPR). SPR arises from the strong interaction between incident light and free electrons in the nanoparticles’ conduction band, which drives free electrons to oscillate collectively in resonance with the incident electromagnetic field (Saha et al. 2012). Green plasmonic nanoparticles refer to the plasmonic nanoparticles synthesized by utilizing living or extract of plants/microorganisms in a mild condition of pH, pressure, and temperature. These safe and nontoxic resources contain biomolecules capable of reducing gold and silver ions (i.e., Au(III) and Ag(I) ions) to form gold and silver nanoparticles (Rónavári et al. 2021).
