Definitions

Cosmetic product means any substance or mixture intended to be placed in contact with the external parts of the human body (epidermis, hair system, nails, lips, and external genital organs) or with the teeth and the mucous membranes of the oral cavity with a view exclusively or mainly to cleaning them, perfuming them, changing their appearance, protecting them, keeping them in good condition, or correcting body odors (UNEP 2017).

Emerging pollutants (EPs), also known as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), are substances that are released in the environment for which no regulations are currently established (Deblondea et al. 2011).

Municipal solid waste (MSW), more commonly known as trash or garbage, consists of everyday items we use and then throw away, such as product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, appliances, paint, and batteries (Heberer et al. 2002...
