Definition

In 2003, the Laboratory of Educational Processes and Social Context (Labo-PECS), a research group based at the University of Oran, has initiated the “Algerian Well-being Research Project” aiming at monitoring the population’s satisfaction with a diverse range of life domains at an equal interval of 18 months. Up to July 2011, six surveys were completed. One of the regular measures of these surveys was the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI) (IWG 2006). Because the first two surveys were based in the local region of Oran (Tiliouine et al. 2006; Tiliouine 2009), the present entry will focus only on the results of the last four surveys which represent to some extent the whole Algerian population. In the beginning, I briefly describe the Algerian social and economic context and then present the psychometric performance and the normative ranges of PWI.
