Disaster preparedness: Disaster preparedness refers to the knowledge and capacity developed by government, response and recovery institutions, communities, and individuals to effectively anticipate response to and recover from the impact of likely imminent or current disasters (UN/ISDR 2006). Disaster preparedness (DP) covers all the measures taken to prepare for and reduce the effects of disasters. It involves how to predict, and where possible prevent disasters, mitigate their impact on vulnerable populations, and effectively response to and cope with their consequences at local, national, regional, and international levels (Lavell et al. 2012). DP is about preparing communities and response systems to face risks that have been identified in a certain area (Cavallo 2014).
