Abstract
The experience of illness affects a patient’s life in various ways. It can evoke feelings of alienation and raise questions for the patient or client. Learning to live with a health problem is a challenge that patients may face. To establish contact and build a good relationship with the patient or client, it is essential to treat them with dignity and respect. The patient should be invited to participate throughout the entire treatment process, and they must be offered choices regarding their care. Every patient is competent to make decisions regarding their own care, and they should be given that opportunity. Key elements of patient-centered care include entering a partnership with the patient, promoting good communication, and supporting health promotion.
