Abstract
Effective communication is essential for building trust between healthcare professionals and patients and for providing patient-centered care. Communication involves a continuous exchange of verbal and non-verbal communication, and professionals should adopt a reflective and listening attitude that radiates empathy and understanding toward the patient.
Active listening, summarizing, introducing silences, and paraphrasing are all important skills for effective communication.
Patient satisfaction mainly depends on the quality of the interaction with the patient, the quality of treatment or care, and satisfaction with clinical outcomes.
Respectful care that responds to and accepts the values and standards of the patient is crucial. While the communicative perspective on care and treatment is important, it should be embedded in a larger whole of respectful care to ensure that patients adopt recommendations in their daily lives.
