Abstract
Vulnerable patients are more often ill, more often experience difficulties in coping with their health problems and more often have more limited health skills. Vulnerable patients are more susceptible to health problems and difficulties in functioning in society.
These people tend to have less optimal health literacy, making it difficult for them to understand healthcare information.
Nursing professionals need to communicate with vulnerable patients in a way that enables them to discuss their patient needs and understand the information provided to them.
It is important to provide care and advocacy to patients and families who are socio-economically disadvantaged, in order to improve equity in health and minimize health inequalities.
