Kulshreshtha: So we’ve added some text and a rectangular and now we want to get more control so I am going to reveal another panel called the essential graphics so I’m going to go up to window and then here is the essential graphics panel and that should make it appear over here on the right hand side. Some people also like to go and change their work space to the graphics work space that should also reveal the essential graphics on the right but I do prefer to work in the editing work space one way or the other you’ll want to see the essential graphics on the right hand side and make sure you select the appropriate clip in the timeline, this one is called in nature and then in the essential graphics panel we’re going to click on the edit button.
The edit button will bring up all of the properties for our graphics and you’ll notice at the very top we actually have layers inside of the essential graphics panel. We have our two text layers and we have our shape layer. The shape layer is actually our rectangle and the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to drag it down to the bottom of the layer stack, I’m also going to right click it to rename it and I’m going to give it a meaningful name like rectangle. Now the essential graphics panel is going to give us more control over each of our individual layers. For example I would like to reduce the opacity of the rectangle so I’m going to select the rectangle layer by clicking on it and then down below I can see several properties, one of them is the opacity so right now the opacity is set to one hundred percent. I’m going to reduce it to eighty percent.
Another thing I would like to do is to modify some of the text properties so I’m going to click on the four seasons layer and then down here I can see and I’m going to scroll a little bit I can see a lot of properties related to the text. For example I would like to create some space between the letters and that’s called tracking so that’s this property right here so I’m just going to increase the tracking of the text. I think it looks a little bit better. I’m going to do the same thing for the other piece of text. I’m going to select the layer and I’m going to increase the tracking like that. I’m also going to increase the size of the rectangle because I can see that the text is becoming too large so I just have to kind of drag the edges right over there and you’ll notice we have all of the basic text properties.
The font, the size, the color and when you change it over here in the essential graphics panel it’s also changing it over here in the effect controls panel so it’s really up to you where you choose to change some of these properties. There is some overlap between the effect controls panel and the essential graphics panel. But one thing that is exclusively in the essential graphics panel are some of these properties here where we can align and transform some of the graphics.
For example, I would like to take the rectangle and I would like to put it in the very center of the screen by clicking on these little buttons right here then I’m going to take in nature and I would like it to be horizontally centered on the screen and then I’ll move it down like that so I’ll move it below the rectangle then let me click on that button again and I’m also going to take the four seasons text and I’m going to move it down into the rectangle so these alignment buttons inside the essential graphics can be very useful. If you ever needed to delete a layer it’s very simple you just have to select a layer and hit delete on your keyboard.
You can also add a new layer right here by clicking on the new layer button and then you have several different types of layers that you can create within the essential graphics panel so between the effect controls panel and the essential graphics panel you have a lot of control over the different elements that we have created here. Now one thing about this graphic is at this point it is pretty much static so if I were to play it in the timeline you’ll notice it looks pretty good but there’s no movement or motion so that’s what we’ll be working on next.
