This video breaks the process of a complex peptic ulcer disease diagnosis down into an easy to understand flowsheet for practicing gastroenterologists and medical students. The flowsheet provides a visual representation of the step-by-step decision-making involved in assessing and diagnosing a patient with damage to their gastrointestinal lining. Dr. Piracha discusses the causes, associated diagnoses, and treatment options for the condition. This concise diagnostic video tool helps clinicians make better decisions while taking care of their patients or quickly update their knowledge while preparing for an exam.

Video Transcript

Hello and welcome. Thank you so much for joining me for this video. I’m really happy you’ve taken some time to watch this with me. And in this video, we’re going to be tackling the topic of Peptic Ulcer Disease– An Algorithmic Approach. I’m going to be your host, Dr. Kashif Piracha. I’m board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. I’m also a hypertension specialist, and I have 16 years of clinical experience taking care of patients in active clinical settings.

And the reason I’m creating this video is because I want to share with you an approach that I’m going to take, and I have taken in the past, whenever I suspect that a patient has peptic ulcer disease. And this approach has really helped me a lot. And also, this is the same approach that I’m going to take if I’m faced with a question on the test– whether it’s a certification, re-certification exam, or any other kind of test that I’m taking. If I’m faced with a question that I suspect the patient has peptic ulcer disease in the clinical scenario given, then I’m going to approach the question with this particular algorithm in mind so I can get to the correct answer. So let’s go ahead and get started.
