Structure of Higher Education System
Description
Higher education is provided by universities, university faculties, technological institutions, and professional technical institutions. These four types of institutions comprise both public and private institutions. The higher education sector comes under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education.
Stages of studies
University level first stage
Pregrado
Undergraduate studies are offered at three levels: 1. Professional technological education is offered at technical, technological institutions, and universities, studies usually last for two years and lead to the title of Técnico Profesional; 2. Technical education is offered at technological institutions and universities, studies usually last for three years and lead to the title of Técnologo; 3. Professional education is offered at technological institutions and universities, studies usually last between 4 and 5 years and lead to a professional title.
