Abstract
French businessman and economist, H.E. Say was born at Noisy in 1794, and died in Paris in 1860. He was the eldest son of Jean-Baptiste Say, the famous economist. In his youth he was sent to study at Geneva, where a branch of the Say family had emigrated after the Edict of Nantes. Afterwards, he travelled extensively in North and South America, establishing connections in Brazil that later served his business interests. Back in Paris, Say founded a firm in 1818 for trading with South America, and some time later married the daughter of a rich industrialist, thus assuring his financial security and freeing him to indulge his other interests.
