Abstract

Ganilh was born in Allanches (Cantal) on 6 January 1785, and died in Paris in 1836. The main claims to (modest) fame of this barrister-turned-politician-turned-economist are his Systèmes déconomie politique (1809) and his Dictionnaire déconomie politique (1826). These two works are respectively the first systematic history of thought and the first theoretically oriented dictionary of economics ever published. Unfortunately, save this claim for priority, these two prestigious titles barely conceal the analytical poverty of their contents.
