Abstract

Male urinary incontinence (UI) is common and may cause discomfort, embarrassment, and disruption to everyday activities. Containment products are important for people with UI when active treatment does not cure the problem. In this chapter, indications for male external catheters (MECs) are described, followed by a presentation of products and material. Patient assessment and correct measurement before applying the MEC are an essential part of care of the MEC and are described together with observations and interventions required to avoid complications. This chapter can support appropriate education and training of health-care professionals to ensure a safe and effective practice, when they are using the MEC.
