Abstract

In the era of Industry 4.0, evolving trends of information technologies such as cloud computing (CC), digital twin (DT), and industrial internet of things (IIoT) has brought about robust and advanced manufacturing processes with access to finer level of customization. These attempts are bolstered by recent emergence of augmented virtual reality (AVR) that provides prospects for creating innovative solutions in the space of virtual manufacturing system (VMS). While integrating such technologies is difficult, the objective of this work is to develop an integrated framework to integrate IIoT, DT, CC, and AVR into a single manufacturing platform, so as to create seamless communication between physical and digital world. Additionally, the framework is validated with detailed concept of a practical use case that is automated mattress protector manufacturing, where in lies novelty. Overall, the proposed application not only explains procedural methods involved in carrying out successful cloud-empowered real-time VMS but also provides baseline for practical implementation and future modification.
