Abstract
With the advances in the understanding of the injury mechanisms affecting the pelvis and acetabulum, a specific set of fracture displacements appear. To reduce these fracture displacements, specific manoeuvers are required and a specific set of constructs are being developed. From the classical conventional plates and screws being used in the stabilization of pelvic and acetabular fractures, newer sets of implants have been envisaged and are being used in some places. Specific development includes anatomical plates for buttressing quadrilateral surface area and posterior column. Screws are being developed keeping in mind the osseous corridors available. New 3D printed plate designs have been used for their ability to provide near anatomical reconstruction. Implant material is also changing to memory shape alloys. This chapter gives an overview of all such changes in implant characteristics used in pelvic and acetabular surgery.
