Abstract

Fixation of fractures with low-contact plates are new technology emerging in present days, with less interference in circulation and increased chances of union. Biomechanically, they can be classified as low-contact plates, neutralization plates, buttress plates, tension band plates, bridging plates and reduction plates. Advantages of low-contact plates over DCP are mainly reduced resorption and easier bending features. Improved structural geometry for even distribution of stiffness that allows elastic deformation of entire plate and prevents point concentration of bending force. Improved screw hole designs are applicable for better fixation and compression levels.
