Abstract

The purpose of a quest for better fracture reduction during internal fixation is to provide the healing bone a good anatomical position while minimally disturbing the biological envelope. This can be achieved by absolute stability or relative stability. This attempt at a better fracture reduction is to ensure good union in a reasonable time with earlier mobilization and weight bearing preventing abnormal stress on implants till union. Direct and indirect reduction methods may be used with the help of implants, cerclage wiring and plates acting as an effective tool for reduction. Like most quests, perfection has always remained elusive which is the reason why orthopaedic implantology is always in a state of flux.
