Abstract

Fractures of bones are one of the most common orthopedic injuries and can result from both low-energy and high-energy trauma. With advancements in technology, diagnostic tools have also improved. Computed tomography (CT) has asserted its presence in the assessment of fractures, in addition to conventional radiographs, for three-dimensional understanding of fractures and accurate planning of surgeries. Corresponding advancements have also happened in implant designs, enabling accurate and stronger fixation of periarticular fractures. Newer imaging tools have further enhanced the reproducibility of fracture patterns and boosted evolution of newer classifications. Understanding the basis of these newer classification systems is important in order to benefit the patient clinically.
