Abstract
Implant removals are among the most common surgeries performed in orthopaedics and may range in difficulty from easy to the most difficult. Sometimes the procedure may have to be abandoned. The implants frequently used in trauma surgery are screws, plates, and nails. We discuss the common pitfalls and solutions to some of the most challenging situations related to the removal of these implants in this chapter, drawn from the practice and experience of the senior author. Understanding and application of the principles discussed in this chapter could get the surgeon out of trouble from many a difficult situation during implant removal surgery.
