Definition

Metal mining tailings are spread around the world, containing significant amounts of previously non-extracted metal ions. The valorization of metal mining tailings as a secondary mining resource is becoming a question of sustainability and potentially a large contribution to energy efficiency and a decrease in greenhouse gas emission from the mining industry. Tailings application in nanotechnologies could be one of the ways for these sustainability goals.
