Synonym: Frozen ground landscape
Frozen earth is a soil layer that contains frozen water in locations where the annual average temperature is below zero. Frozen earth can be short-term (duration of a few hours or days to half a month), seasonal (half a month to several months) or permanent (several years to tens of thousands of years).
