This site is located along the Atlantic coast at the junction of Bahia, northern Brazil and Espírito Santo, and it is composed of eight independent protected areas with a core protection area of 1,120 km2. The main vegetation at the site includes Atlantic coastal forests and shallow sandy shrubs. The tropical forest has the highest biodiversity in the world. With a high percentage of endemic species, the site illustrates a unique type of species evolution.
