Dadu River Canyon National Geopark, Sichuan

This geopark is located in Jinkouhe District, Leshan City, Sichuan Province. It features Dadu River Grand Canyon and Davashan basalt geological features and was accredited as a national geopark in 2002. The Dadu River Grand Canyon is a typical eroded river gorge, with a length of 26 km, a valley width of 70–150 m, a local area of less than 50 m, a level difference of 1,000–1,500 m, and a maximum valley depth of 2,600 m. The valley cuts through geological sections that are several thousand metres thick and extend from the former Sinian system to the Permian Emeishan basalts. These strata record hundreds of millions of years of geological evolution. Late Pleistocene glacial features, such as U-shaped valleys, horns, cirques and glacial lakes, are preserved on the surface of Dawa Mountain.
