This geopark is located north of Jiaozuo City in the southern foothills of the Taihangshan Mountains, and it has a total area of approximately 556 km2. It is characterised by rift tectonics, spectacular landscapes formed by hydrodynamic processes, ecological and cultural heritage and attractive scenery. The Yuntai landform is a result of neotectonic movements that occurred approximately 23 million years ago. A sequence of continental sedimentary rocks was deposited on the stable North China craton and records the epicontinental sedimentation from the Middle Proterozoic to the Palaeozoic. The geopark is also a natural reserve for the northernmost group of macaque monkeys in mainland China. The geopark has five scenic districts, including Yuntaishan, Shennongshan, Qinglongxia, Fenglinxia, and Qingtianhe. The main attractions are hanging springs, waterfalls, gorges, clear streams and rivers, towering rock walls and ridges.
