Yanshanian Movement

The Yanshanian movement was the crustal movement that occurred extensively in mainland China during the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods between approximately 200 and 200 million years ago. The Yanshanian movement was characterized by intense folding and fracturing, extensive magmatic activity, dynamic metamorphism and mineralization. In eastern China (Circum-Pacific region), it is represented by a significant pattern of strong movement in the east and weak movement in the west during multiple episodes. The Yanshanian movement was an important tectonic and metallogenic period in China and created the basic tectonic pattern of China. It was also an important intercontinental tectonic event. The Yinshan-Yanshan orogenic belt is a typical orogenic belt of the Yanshanian Age. The Yinshan-Yanshan orogenic belt did not develop from geosynclines but instead is a typical ‘continental orogenic belt’ (or ‘intraplate orogenic belt’).
