A sand desert is covered with large amounts of quicksand and different types of sand dunes. Sand deserts are the most extensive landforms and landscapes in desert areas. China contains approximately 637,000 km2 of desert, which mainly includes the Taklamakan Desert, Gurbantonggut Desert, Badan Jaran Desert, Tengger Desert, and Mu Us Sandy Land (Fig. 5).
