Miyun Yunmengshan National Geopark covers several towns in Miyun County in Beijing Municipality such as Shicheng, Wengxizhuang and Xitiangezhuang. It became a national geopark in 2009. The structure of the Yunmengshan metamorphic core complex was discovered in the 1980s, and it is one of the three metamorphic core complexes that have been identified in China. The Archean metamorphic rocks in the northern and eastern parts of the geopark are amphibolite-granulite lithofacies of a moderately deep metamorphic rock series that developed during the formation of the crystalline basement of the North China Craton. The Palaeoarchean and Mesoarchean Miyun Group and the Neoarchean Sihetang Group in the park are the main representatives and are the locations where the strata were named.
