Mining Park

A mining park is a site that makes use of an abandoned mine with geological and mining relics as well as facilities bearing scientific and cultural connotations. After restoration of the ecological environment, it is used for scientific research, science popularisation, tourism and leisure activities. Mine parks play an important role in protecting the relics of mining activities, exhibiting mining history and cultural artefacts, and disseminating mining knowledge. They also help mining cities achieve sustainable development. Since 2004, China has set up mine parks under the Ministry of Land and Resources. A mine park should meet the following four basic criteria. (1) It must be an abandoned mine or an abandoned part of a mine.
