Middle Ordovician Darriwilian Section (GSSP ‘Golden Spike’) in Huangni-tang, Changshan, Zhejiang (Darriwilian)

This point is a regional stratigraphic unit in the upper stage of the Upper Ordovician Series. It was defined by Hall in 1899 with reference to the graptolite-bearing rock bed in Victoria, Australia. The Ordovician Huangnitang System in Changshan, Zhejiang Province, has a complete stratigraphic sequence accompanied by continuous rock strata and abundant fossils. This section developed through the continuous strata of the Darriwilian Stage of the Middle Ordovician Series. The continuous evolution of graptolites and conodonts allows this section to be a marker for global correlations. The first occurrence of the graptolite zone with Undulograptus austrodentatus fossils led this section to become a Darriwilian GSSP based on the approval of the International Commission on Stratigraphy Ordovician Branch and the International Union of Geological Sciences.
