Abstract

Throughout history the purposes of universities might have been of varied motivations. However, one essential aspect of this purpose was to develop citizenship. This social responsibility for higher education has become even more significant in recent years with the advent of both new types of citizenships and with the rise in novel technology. Thus, the purpose of this article is to attest to how one such technology, AI chatbots, can facilitate the development of four specific but interconnected types of citizenships, namely digital citizenship, ethical citizenship, civic engagement/active citizenship, and global citizenship. And moreover, how such citizenships can aid universities in not only developing the socially responsible citizens of today but also the future ready citizens of tomorrow that will be able to stand out from the ever-increasing levels of intelligence in AI.
