Introduction

Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that has been recognized as a disruptive technology, which would lead to a mega socioeconomic transformation (Gilder 2018). It has been described as “A database, similar to a cadaster of real estate titles, extended to events, covenants, patents, licenses, or other permanent records. All are hashed together mathematically from the origin of the series, each record distributed and publicized on decentralized Internet nodes” (p. 241). This entry is on the politics surrounding the blockchain technology in general and its actual and potential impact on educational innovation.

The technology-mediated innovation in education today is led by big data, mass/social media, STEM curriculum, and data mining/analytics with subservient technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
